As a United 1K traveler, you obtain Elite Status within the airline’s frequent flier program. United 1K members get numerous upgrades and rewards. These include priority check-in, mileage bonuses, baggage fee exemption, shopping discounts, and special offers from travel partners of the airline. You need to meet certain requirements in order to become a United 1K traveler.
1. Join the United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flier program
Join the United Airlines Mileage Plus frequent flier program. In order to obtain 1K status, you need to start collecting miles through this program. Enrollment is free and you can become a member within a few minutes through the United Airlines Website. See the link in the Resources section.
2. Use Your Frequent Flier Number
Give your frequent flier number each time that you book a flight on the airline. You will be rewarded an Elite Qualifying Mile (EQM) for each mile you have flown. One Elite Qualifying Segment (EQM) will be given as well for each segment you fly on United.
3. Use Your Frequent Flier Number With Travel Partners
Earn miles towards 1K status by using your frequent flier number when you book with United travel partners. Certain hotels and rental car agencies reward members with bonus miles. Travel partners include Hertz, Budget, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott.
4. Exceed the Qualifying Minimum
Reach 100,000 Elite Qualifying Miles or 100 Elite Qualifying Segments within a single calendar year. Once you have collected this mileage amount, United will automatically upgrade your frequent flier status to United 1K traveler. To track your status, you can log onto your Mileage Plus frequent flier account on the United Website.
