A 26-minute drive will get you to beautiful Woodinville from downtown Seattle. You’ll get on WA-520 E for 9 miles before taking I-405 N the rest of the way.

Woodinville is the heart of Washington wine country and it’s stuffed to the gills with beautiful, romantic wineries for you and your sweetheart to enjoy. There are more than 900 wineries in Washington State, and Woodinville is home to 120 of them.

Yes, turns out there’s a Long Beach in Washington too. And no shade to California, but ours is better. With 28 miles of continuous beach, parking that is always free, extraordinary views, and lighthouses, Long Beach, Washington, is the perfect place to get all the best parts of beach life without the bustle and the crowds. Take as many romantic strolls and picnics as you want from any of the 7 beach access points and enjoy a warm seafood dinner in town before calling it a night in your cozy romantic getaway.

While there are many chain hotels available for an overnight stay in Long Beach and nearby Astoria, we recommend this charming little cottage on Airbnb for your quiet, romantic stay by the Sea. Enjoy the quiet property, fully furnished cabin, and fire pit as you bask in the peace and stillness.

In a quick-as-a-flash 1-hour flight from Seattle, you can be in gorgeous Vancouver, a glorious, mountain-surrounded city full of art, life, and romance.

Vancouver is a lovely city full of things to do and sights to see. Catch the Vancouver International Film Festival in September and early October or choose from the myriad of film festivals happening in the city throughout the year. If you prefer live performance, Vancouver is one of Canada’s most thriving dance scenes with performances from over 25 professional dance troupes including Ballet British Columbia. Of course, there are also a tremendous number of outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking, cycling, and boating, as well as cuisines from all over the world being served all over the city.

A 3-hour flight from Seattle-Tacoma airport will put you in sunny Carlsbad where you can soak up all the vitamin D you didn’t even realize you were yearning for.

When I lived in San Diego, Carlsbad was one of my favorite places to go. It was about a 45-minute drive from where I was, but it was beautiful, quiet, and any time I went there were significantly fewer people than elsewhere in the city, which soothed my little introvert’s heart.

Carlsbad’s main claim to fame is Legoland, and — as a total Lego head myself — this adds 1,000 cool points to this destination for me. But if you and your SO are not builders or interested in Lego, Carlsbad is still a gorgeous small beach town to enjoy a little romance. The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch simply can’t be beat for a spectacular display of beauty, and South Carlsbad State Beach will give you miles of gorgeous coastline to amble, Enjoy this picturesque beach town and meander into the Museum of Making Music or spend an afternoon in the Sea Life Aquarium to round out your day.

As with any beachy destination, you’ll have your pick of chain hotels, bed & breakfasts, and resorts. However, locals have voted Ocean Palms Beach Resort as the best local boutique hotel, and we tend to agree. All guest rooms bring a burst of colorful Ocean vibes that lightens your mood and gets you ready for the waves. The suites are bright, beautiful, and stuffed full of every amenity you could want or need. The resort is right on the water, so just walk out your door and put your toes in the sand.

Of course, you might want to enjoy a little alone time tucked a little further inland, and for that, we suggest this cozy little cottage on Airbnb, cutely named "The Flying Mermaid." Hop on a place for 2.5 hours and BOOM — you’re in the magical land of Colorado (and frankly, you may never want to come home.)

One year for Christmas, I drove across the country from San Diego to Ohio and back again. Denver was my favorite stop on that trip. The air was so fresh and crisp and the people so friendly. On top of that, it was the cleanest large city I have ever been in, making for a wonderful stay.

My personal Denver itinerary included a trip to the famous Tattered Cover Book Store and the Denver Art Museum, but of course, Colorado is also known for its outdoor activities in the surrounding mountain ranges. Craft your trip around what you and your partner enjoy most and I promise Denver will deliver.

Like any city, where you stay will depend on how into the action you want to be, but for a weekend getaway where you want to be in walking distance of a plethora of different restaurants and bars, we recommend staying in the Union Station / Lower Downtown area — specifically at The Maven.
