Astoria - Astoria OR Family Vacation

Preview: Astoria was the first settlement west of the Rocky Mountains, famous for being the place where Lewis and Clark ended their 3,700-mile journey. It remains an important shipping port. Huge ships pass daily under the bridge that crosses the 4.1-mile-wide Columbia River to Washington. On the waterfront you’ll find piers to walk on and shops to browse in. At Smith Point you can watch the shipping activity from a large viewing deck just west of Pier 1. Kids love watching the enormous cranes at work, lifting whole railroad cars onto ships that make everything else in the vicinity seem minuscule. The above description is an excerpt from "Fun With the Family in Oregon." Whether you're a first-time visitor or a long-time local resident, this chapter from the Fun With the Family Series will help you find fun and engaging activities that the entire family can enjoy at great destinations throughout the state, suitable for “kids” of all ages.

Review: Astoria is a fun town to stop by and visit. But after a few hours in town looking at the Victorian homes and landmarks, I would continue down to Oregon's beaches, which have some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. Seaside is a great destination for families. But if you are looking for something more romantic, try Cannon Beach, which is just a few miles south of Seaside.
