Doin' the Charleston: Sleepover in South Carolina - Charleston SC Romantic Getaway

Preview: Savannahians like to boast that their city is more industrious, more beautiful, and more enchanting than Charleston. Charlestonians, in turn, claim that their city is more aristocratic, is far superior as a working port, and offers more to do in a compact area than Savannah. Surprisingly, Savannahians like to escape to Charleston, and Charlestonians, in turn, to Savannah, and you can decide for yourself. So this tale of two cities will take its turn with a two-day trip. Your romantic drive through the South Carolina Low Country and a couple of days spent browsing the shops of Charleston are a wonderful accompaniment to your stay in Savannah. When the day is done, you’ll have not only recharged your souls but also formed your own opinions about these two historic cities. You may even pick up a bit of a drawl. This chapter is a true insiders’ guide revealing great nightlife, romantic hotels, intimate dining venues, secluded retreats, and much more.

Review: My wife and I spent a few hours walking the streets of Charleston. Our goal was a nice big bowl of jambalaya at the Margaritaville Cafe. So as we walked we took in the ambiance, the palm trees blowing in the constant breeze, the pirate haunts, and mansions. Row upon row of shops called us in with their air conditioned promises. Smells from a hundred different places beckoned, but we had our hearts set. So when we arrived we were dismayed to find only a t-shirt shop. "Where is the cafe?" we asked. "This is the only Margaritaville without one." was the reply. Our hearts sank until we remembered the fantastic smells that brought us down this far. I don''t remember the name of the place now, Magic Mushroom I believe it was. It had the food and atmosphere which exceeded our expectations and the expectations we had for our other choice. Charleston is the type of place that makes me forget I''m in America.
