Preview: Annapolis is a waterfront city with salt water washing right up into the City Dock. This narrow slip of water juts in to meet the bottom of Main and Cornhill Streets. Almost everyone gravitates at one time or another to the dock area—a busy place with fishing and pleasure boats going in and out. Annapolis has all the lure of an active port, as well as a rich historical heritage stretching back to its founding in the seventeenth century. A Kunta Kinte plaque on City Dock commemorates the 1767 arrival of slaves from
Africa. Alex Haley wrote about this in Roots. This chapter has everything you need to plan a travel experience in Annapolis.
