Big Bay Point Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast - Big Bay MI Romantic Getaway

Preview: A casual, secluded retreat awaits guests at the Big Bay Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The lighthouse sits high atop a cliff jutting into the clear, deep waters of Lake Superior. The two-story brick building and its adjoining 60-foot-high square tower are located on more than forty acres of woods along a half mile of Lake Superior shoreline. The fourteen-room inn has seven guest rooms with private baths, a common living room with a fireplace and library, as well as a sauna. The rooms vary slightly in size and location, but all have excellent views. Guests can climb to the lighthouse lantern room, which is more than 100 feet above the lake surface. The vantage point provides views of fields and wildflowers, dense forests, the majestic Huron Mountains in the distance, and the ever-changing Lake Superior. The inn offers something unique for a lighthouse B&B. A Massage Hut sits just below the lighthouse in a secluded wooded area. The sights and scents of the lake and woods add to the relaxation of the massage. In addition, arm, hand, face, and foot massages are offered right in the lighthouse. Special lighthouse spa packages are available between Memorial Day and October 15. The town of Big Bay, with a population of 320, is filled with local culture. Its claim to fame is that is was the setting for Otto Preminger’s classic film "Anatomy of a Murder." The town has grocery and convenience stores, a laundry, gift shops, restaurants, a restored train depot, and the Thunder Bay Inn, once owned by auto tycoon Henry Ford. Boat and snowmobile rentals, a marina, and tour guides for wilderness waterfall and sunset kayak tours are offered. Downhill skiing, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, and hiking are among the activities available. Marquette County has a variety of summer ethnic, arts, and music festivals, historic walking tours, a maritime museum, and numerous antiques shops. Reservations: A two-night minimum stay is required for Friday and Saturday from mid-May through October and between December 27 and January 1. A three-night stay is required for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.
