Ocean Shores & Pacific Beach, WA - Ocean Shores WA Weekend Getaway

Preview: Several small communities lie along the Pacific, from Ocean Shores north. Ocean City (population: 500) is 8 miles to the north. Copalis beach (population: 900) is 3.5 miles farther. Two miles above Pacific Beach is Moclips (population: 700). The village of Taholah is 9 miles north in the Quinault Indian Reservation, but there are no tourist facilities there, and the beaches are closed to the public. At the southern end of this stretch is a peninsula that separates Grays Harbor from the ocean. The flatland here is characterized by broad sweeps of sandy beach and prairies of beach grass, laced with narrow lakes and freshwater canals. Northward, lowlands give way to rocky bluffs, grasses succumb to shrubs, and highlands belong to timber. Before 1960 the Ocean Shores area was a ranch owned by the Minard family. It was purchased for $1 million and subsequently developed. Today it is a residential and resort area of about 6,000 acres, with 6 miles of ocean beach where residents and visitors enjoy flying kites, riding horses, fishing, clam digging, hiking, and searching the surf and drift lines for seaborne treasures. This chapter includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near these coastal cities.

Review: My recommendation is to bypass the town of Ocean Shores and had to the south end of the penninsula. The beaches down there are better, and it's more residential, which is great because the town get's a little touristy. There aren't many lodging options, but I believe a new hotel is opening up soon, and there is a WorldMark resort. Other than that, I'm sure there are plenty of vacation rentals.
