Carmel and Pebble Beach - Pebble Beach CA Weekend Getaway

Preview: Imagine a village so quaint it has no parking meters along its narrow, shaded streets and no neon signs advertising its many chic shops and charming cafes. Imagine a coastal hamlet with more than a hundred galleries but no streetlights, where houses have names instead of addresses, and where all the trees are registered. If you’re planning to visit the village of Carmel at the north end of the Monterey Peninsula, you can stop imagining—you’ve found the place described. For years, Carmel has been just such a village, as well as a home to artists, poets, novelists, musicians, and freethinkers. It also attracts the affluent and the famous, as does the neighboring Pebble beach. This chapter includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near these coastal cities.

Review: Great vacation area. Carmel is quaint, artsy, and comfortable [but pricey]. Monterey more industrial, touristy [Cannery row}, but also fun [movies, acquarium, more moderate lodging and eats]. Spent 5 days attending great Carmel Bach Festival, including concert of Mexican Baroque music at beautiful Carmel Mission: hightlight of our vacation. Don't miss 17 Mile Pebble Beach drive [have a snack, drink at one fo the beautiful resorts and you'll not have to pay $8.50 toll].
