Icefields Parkway: Lake Louise to Jasper, Alberta - Lake Louise AB Scenic Drive

Preview: The Icefields Parkway, stretching 230 kilometers (138 miles) between Lake Louise and Jasper through the heart of two world-famous Rocky Mountain national parks, is one of the premier mountain drives on earth. Once you’ve completed this drive it will be forever etched into your memory and most likely you’ll dream of returning again and again. As a bonus, the drive is easy and relaxing, unlike most mountain drives elsewhere in BC. Special attractions: Nonstop postcard-like scenery, the Columbia Icefield, Bow Summit, Peyto Lake, Mount Edith Cavell, frequent wildlife sightings, fully protected wilderness, and an excellent network of hiking trails and campgrounds. This chapter is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.

Review: This road was the high point of my 2 week cross country motorcycle ride. The simple pleasure of the scenic road itself on the bike(plenty of opportunities to pass the RV's) alone made this a memorable experience. Along the road are diversions & distractions: the absolutely stunning Canadian Rockies with campgrounds, trails, wildlife and even a walk on a glacier right off the road. Watch out for elk and moose, especially up around Jasper. If you haven't had the pleasure of the Canadian Rockies yet, you owe yourself this ride.
