Palm Beach Area - Palm Beach FL Family Vacation

Preview: Palm beach is an exclusive winter home for the wealthy, so it figures that you’ll find polo fields here. In winter, well-tended hooves thunder back and forth in weekly polo matches that are open to the public. And leave it to Palm Beach to sink a Rolls-Royce to create an artificial reef. But there are also familiar family diversions in this well-manicured region. In 1878, Spanish Main sailors unloaded a shipload of about 20,000 coconuts here. Quicker than you can say sprout, the nuts rooted. So the beach got coconut palms; these non-native tropical palm trees aren’t found everywhere in Florida. Besides finding coconuts on the ground (don’t eat them, they may have an antibiotic in them to prevent a deadly tree blight), children will enjoy a drivethrough animal safari, a small garden zoo, a science museum, nature centers, boat rides, citrus-grove tram tours, a marina where it’s easy to feed fish, and a serene but very family-friendly Japanese museum and gardens. The area lures lots of scuba divers; many guideboats to reefs are based at area marinas. Parking at Palm Beach beaches is usually metered or restricted to residents, and the beaches themselves are sometimes badly eroded. Conditions are not ideal for families and swimming. But some beaches are good access points for snorkeling. With this chapter you will visit these family-friendly places: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse / Florida History Center and Museum, Canoe Outfitters, Coral Cove County Park, Burt Reynolds Park / Florida History Center and Museum, Dubois Park / Dubois House Museum, RJ Gator, Jupiter Outdoor Center, Loggerhead Park / Marinelife Center of Juno Beach, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park / William T. Kirby Nature Center, Riviera Beach Municipal Park, Henry M. Flagler Museum, The Breakers, Palm Beach Polo, Sailfish Marina and resort, Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park, South Florida Science Museum / Aldrin Planetarium, Loxahatchee Preserve Nature Center, Lion Country Safari, Okeeheelee Nature Center, John Prince Park, Lake Worth Municipal Pier, Lantana Municipal Beach, Knollwood Groves, Palm Beach Groves, Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Old School Square, and Colony Hotel.
