Preview: One of the highest valleys in Idaho runs east-west south of the Sun Valley area, from the lava fields of Craters of the Moon in the east to the mountains near Anderson Ranch Reservoir in the west. It is flat country, but it has a short growing season, so it has never attracted large numbers of farmers. It is attracting large numbers of recreation visitors, though, because various places in it are excellent for fishing, hunting, hiking, and other purposes. The Magic Reservoir is a popular gathering spot for boaters (beware the steep grades headed into the basin). About a half hour due east is the Silver Creek area, made famous for its terrific fly-fishing by Ernest Hemingway. The campgrounds in this chapter include: Bounds / Canyon Transfer Camp, Myrtle Point / Lava Point / Lava Cove, Little Wood Reservoir, and High-Five.
