Preview: This walk explores a broad swath of undisturbed open space in the broad Bear Creek valley southwest of
Denver. A couple of miles of creek and surrounding woodlands and prairie are protected as Lakewood’s Bear Creek Greenbelt. This loop walk, following both concrete and gravel trails, samples the best parts of this urban corridor. It runs across broad grasslands, through groves of towering cottonwoods, and past prairie dog towns and placid ponds. Surrounded by busy streets and housing subdivisions, the quiet park is a place to get away from the city’s bustle. Special attractions: Open space, Bear Creek, the Stone House, ponds, birding, wildlife observation (bring binoculars), fishing, and bicycling.
