Preview: Pigeon Creek is the most underutilized campground in this entire guidebook. Campgrounds located within quick driving access from an interstate are often overcrowded with RVs and overrun in general. Pigeon Creek bucks that trend. Located just a few miles off I-94 near Black River Falls, this destination within the Black River State Forest is actually underutilized. Sure, they get a few travelers wandering off the interstate, but the lack of hookups or showers keeps the big-rig set away for the most part. This campground offers a near-ideal setting for tent campers and has all sorts of fun stuff to do nearby, yet it won’t even fill on July 4th. Frankly, I’m stumped as to why! But never mind the “whys.” Just appreciate the fact that you can throw your tent in the car, hit I-94, and be guaranteed a campsite! And once you come here, you will be coming back for more. Folks that discover Pigeon Creek become regulars who swear by the place.
