Preview: Sidie Hollow is a great “get-away-from-it-all” destination. Do you ever get to the point where if you get in one more traffic jam, see one more TV commercial, get one more unsolicited e-mail, or hear one more coworker say one more stupid thing you are going to tear your hair out? Then it’s time for a tent camping trip. Time to get away from the rush, rush, rush madness of our modern era. And I have the place for you—somewhere that exudes relaxation, somewhere tucked away in the hills of southwestern Wisconsin, that even if you were from the area, you might not even know it was there. It is called Sidie Hollow. Some destinations are so packed with paths to walk, rivers to float, rail trails to pedal, and natural things to see that you feel compelled to “do” them. This “go there, do that“ pressure sometimes kills the relaxing intent of a camping trip. There is no pressure at Sidie Hollow. It is scenic for sure—and you can fish, float your canoe around the lake, and maybe walk in the valley, but all that seems an afterthought to just kicking back and watching the sun move across the sky. Or maybe taking a nap in the lounge chair. This slow-paced Vernon County park outside the town of Viroqua is so relaxed, they give turtles speeding tickets!
