Preview: This state park follows the classic example of how many modern recreation areas have evolved. First the future park area is the site of a historic event or structure. In this case, a small log fort was erected in the late 1700s as protection for early pioneers moving into the area. Over time, the structure goes through varying ownerships and stages of care before its historic relevance is realized. Then the area is preserved and the domain is given over or sold to a public entity. Finally the public entity, in this case the state of Georgia, develops the historic site and adds recreation components for public use, and in this case, a fine campground on the shores of Marbury Watershed Lake was born.
